My Border Collie has arthritic carpals, and his feet are turned in. As a result, his paw pads are cracked in places. He does not seem irritated by it, but I wondered if there is anything I can massage into his pads to soothe/repair the damage. Thanks, Elaine
You can get various paw waxes such as Mushers Secret but boots may be an option. I use Pawz dog boots for paw injures on my dogs and when on holiday they came in very useful to prevent my oldie slipping on a floor. They come in a pack of 12, aren’t expensive and are something you can start with pretty much straight away so they could be an option.
There are loads slow products available – I know pet head make a paw cream and there is one called yucalm.
Just be aware not to soften the pads up too much! We don’t want them to be cracked but if they are too soft they might be vulnerable to injury.
maybe you could consider boots to protect the feet? Does he tend to scuff his toes or anything like that at all?
