My dog has been having hydro, treadmill, for almost 2 years. It has made a huge difference to his hind limb muscles. He also has myotherapy, acupuncture, chiro and cranial sacral therapy for general arthritis and back pain. All under the agreement of his vet. The last 2 times his back has been worse (dipping on hind limbs) the day after his hydro.
Am wondering if this is co incidence or if the treadmill may now be too much for him? We did do a shorter session this time too.
Thank you Carly. That all makes sense,am seeing our vet tomorrow and will discuss with our hyrotherapist. Both are wonderful but as could not chat with them until Monday am grateful for any thoughts as am worried…I did wonder if the relaxtion of the muscles and/or overdoing it in the treadmill could have created a nerve issue.
It sounds like you are doing a lot for him, on occasion you can see them a bit stiff after a hydro session but this is more common when they arw first starting. The underwater treadmill is hard work but it can help to loosen the back muscles up that tense up with the pain, have you had a chat with your hydrotherapist? Taking the sessions slowly and having breaks will help if he is finding it a bit hard going.
Spinal arthritis can sometimes pinch on nerves and this can sometimes cause a dipping or weakness in the hindlegs
